As we continue our series, "The Road to Miss Delaware 2019," let us introduce to you the next contestant to be featured, Katelynn Mayers, the current Miss Newark 2019. Continue reading to learn more about Katelynn and her journey to the crown!

What have you learned from your current Miss Delaware, Joanna Wicks, which you hope to carry with you, regardless of whomever wins the title of Miss Delaware.
I have learned that making year year your own is very important so that you really enjoy it. Being authentic is one of Joanna’s greatest qualities and I can tell that she really knows how to balance a full work load and still keep a smile on her face and thats everything I’m looking forward to when becoming the next Miss Delaware.

What is one goal you hope that the new Miss Delaware will accomplish during her reign?
I know my goal will be to focus on the social media presence for our organization and really keeping the sisterhood alive because we are a small State, yet we are so mighty. I really want to share my story with many young girls who have experienced the obstacles I have and inspire them to keep pushing towards you goal and empower them to evoke change in there communities like I have.

If you could go back in the past, and give yourself one piece of advice when you first stepped into pageantry, what would it be?
I would tell myself to be patient because all great things in life come in time. I took me many tries before I win Miss Delaware’s Outstanding Teen In 2010 and 10 years later I still love everything about this organization and what it represents. I’ve grown tremendously in my confidence and overall advocacy. I’d tell my 15 year old brace face that the end game is worth it.

Share with us your platform and why it’s important to you.
When I was a young girl I felt victimized by my ethnicity. I felt I didn’t have a place in any friend group because I wasn’t just white, black or Spanish. I also wasn’t just a dancer, singer or artist. I did a little bit of everything and it hurt so much to be put down for my talents. After all the verbal abuse wasn’t working I started getting physically harmed. I want to be the gate way for all those out there that live in fear of the bully to keep the faith in themselves and rise above the hatred. Together we stop  Children from living in fear of the bully. my platform is Let’s : Join Hands : Stop Bullying. I support all bullying awareness causes because they all serve a valid point in making sure the 3.2 billion students a year that report being bullied have a voice.

“Bravura” is an artistic word for exceptional; what makes you a ‘bravura’ candidate for Miss Delaware?
I choose not to be a product of my environment, I chose to seek the good in the bad times and I turned my pain into passion to create an imperative message to our children, teens and adults. Together we can see a brighter future. Kindness is simple and it starts with us. I know who I am,I know that my story will touch many lives and my year of experience in this organization would prove so much to those that doubt this organization. We are under appreciated super hero’s and I am glad to have served my time with the Miss Delaware program. I want nothing more than to shed light upon those still living in the dark.
