What have you learned from your current Miss Delaware, Joanna Wicks, which you hope to carry with you, regardless of whomever wins the title of Miss Delaware.
Every social impact related appearance Joanna makes as Miss Delaware, she handles with humility and grace and truly takes the time to listen to others and learn from them. Regardless of if I walk away with the position of Miss Delaware or not, I will always carry with me Joanna’s kindness, and her true gratitude and appreciation for listening to, and learning from others.
Me tandem skydiving with special forces Military Combat Veteran Chris Derbak at “Jump For Valor” a skydiving fundraiser for American Hero Navy EOD Kenton Stacey who was critically wounded during his deployment last year serving in the Middle East.
What is one goal you hope that the new Miss Delaware will accomplish during her reign?
I hope our new Miss Delaware accomplishes every single goal she sets her mind to! However, one specific goal i would love to see our new Miss Delaware accomplish is to raise more awareness for, and to work extensively her social impact initiative, and for the national social impact initiative of the Miss America Organization, the Children’s Miracle Network.
If you could go back in the past, and give yourself one piece of advice when you first stepped into pageantry, what would it be?
In pageantry, or any form of competition a lot of effort, time, and practice goes into your overall performance. My military based family roots by nature make me an extremely hard worker, so the advice I would give myself is to rest and recenter more, even if it’s just for 10 minutes at the end of the day, as rest is essential for growth physically, emotionally, and through every act of service and labor.
Giving 94 year old Purple Heart Ex-POW Private Bayard Horn his first “Welcome home” since returning to this country after being held captive in Germany as a Prisoner of war, since Bayard came back critically wounded he never received a proper welcome home, so 70 years after his return we made sure to gather many veterans and civilians to celebrate him and thank him for his service and sacrifice in the preservation of our freedom.
Share with us your platform and why it’s important to you.
“Serving Those Who Have Served” is my social impact initiative, being raised in a military based family and having numerous close military friends, I personally have first hand witnessed the sacrifices military families make on a day in and day out basis.
Around 2 years ago I attempted my life long dream of joining the United States Air Force to follow in my family’s footsteps of service, but unfortunately I was not medically cleared to serve because I suffer from asthma.
My social impact initiative is so close to my heart as it is my way of serving- it’s so important that those who fight for us overseas are represented and supported on the home front, especially those suffering from mental illness and/or PTSD, each day we lose 22 veterans to suicide, if given the opportunity of being Miss Delaware it will be my personal mission to raise awareness and continuing the path of launching a 501c non profit in attempts to lessen this staggering, heartbreaking statistic. 22 is 22 too many.
“Bravura” is an artistic word for exceptional; what makes you a ‘bravura’ candidate for Miss Delaware?
I am military strong and ready to handle every opportunity and obstacle I may face as Miss Delaware. To me there is no one more exceptional than our veterans; having the year as Miss Delaware to serve them and our state would be an absolutely humbling and incredible experience, traveling statewide hearing our veterans stories and having the opportunity to give back to those who have given so much for our freedom would be a lifelong dream come true.
