Miracle Treat Day 2018

For some, today was just a normal Thursday, which happens to be August 2. But for many others, it's a day of coming together, within their communities for Miracle Treat Day, and help raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Titleholders from the Miss America Organization, including Miss America 2018, Cara Mund, came together in different parts of the US, at local Dairy Queen locations for this special event! Did you know that on Miracle Treat Day, $1 or more from every Blizzard Treat sold at participating DQ locations will be donated to local CMN Hospitals?! Jordan St.Onge Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen, did her part in getting a Blizzard and raising awareness. She wrote to us and said, “Today I got to spend time at the Dairy Queen in Middleboro, Massachusetts! Not only did I get to fill my craving for a Reese’s Blizzard, but I also got to talk to all the customers who stopped by. I asked for donations and got to tell them about why I was there. I’m the current Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen so clearly people will look at me when I’m wearing the crown, but I got to tell them about what Miracle Treat Day is all about. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is the national platform for Miss America and the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization. I love helping to raise money for a cause such as this! Everyone was very willing to donate and enjoy their Blizzard! I had a great day!”

Jana El-Sayed, who is the reigning Miss Kingston, of the Miss New Hampshire Organization, spent her morning volunteering on Miracle Treat Day, at her local Dairy Queen. For Jana this was a very important event to participate in because she is a Children’s Miracle story and was saved by Boston Children’s Hospital 21 years ago. Her passion towards CMNH has allowed her to raise over $33,000 for Children’s Miracle Network! And today was just adding onto that!

Down in New Jersey, Miss America 2018, Cara Mund, visited the Dairy Queen in Absecon, where she met up with local titleholders from the Miss and Teen system in New Jersey! Check out this fun video courtesy of teen titleholder, Lexi Hughes.

As we head into Arizona, many of the titleholders did their part to help raise money for CMNH! One such contestant was Alyssa Diaz, the reigning Miss City of Tucson Outstanding Teen 2018! Diaz stated, “participating in Miss America serves events like the Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day provide opportunities for me to go out in my community and help to raise awareness for CMNH charities to promote raising money for children in need! The more people and organizations that raise awareness will help raise more money and help more children overall!”

Also from Arizona, Chloe Hiller, the reigning Miss Glendale’s Outstanding Teen, shared with us about her experience on Miracle Treat Day! She said, “Today I stopped by Dairy Queen to support the big fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This is my third year participating in Miracle Treat Day and since I love to eat Oreo blizzards this is one of my favorite ways to support Phoenix Children’s Hospital.”

Hiller went onto continue, “I thanked the store manager and employees for their support of CMN Hospitals and I brought my friend Abril along for a blizzard too. Since it is a sizzling 109 degrees here in Phoenix today this was also the perfect way to cool off!”

Cayla Kumar, who is the current Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen, woke up bright and early this morning, to take part in an eventful day for Miracle Treat Day! She wrote to us and said, “Cookie Dough, S’more, Strawberry Cheesecake, blizzard here, blizzard there, blizzard everywhere. If you couldn’t tell from all the social media post, today was Diary Queen Miracle Treat Day. On Miracle Treat Day, $1 or more from every Blizzard Treat sold at participating DQ will be donated to your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals which for me is Cohen Children’s Medical Center. I spent a few hours at my local DQ in Levittown where the staff could not have been accommodating. Marco, the manager immediately got started by showing me how to make my first blizzard of the day. I spend the next few hours helping out at the drive through window and even delivering the yummy blizzards to the customers. While helping out I had the opportunity to speak with a customer whose son is a Stanner Alumni (Archbishop Molloy). “

Kumar went onto say, “I love having the opportunity to connect with people while helping to raise money for a great cause. Today was all about the kids and making a difference. I’ve witnessed first hand how Cohen Children’s Medical Center has change the lives of many kids. They add a their own Pediatric Oncology and Hematology floor. They had ground breaking scoliosis surgery. Every dollar counts and every dollar makes a difference because at the end of the day it’s for the children.”

Also participating in New York was Emily Mahana, the reigning Miss Upstate New York 2018. She wrote to us and said, “I can officially say Cara Mund and I have more than just the Miss America Organization in common — we’ve both met the COO of Dairy Queen (on left in photo)! I had such an amazing time at my local DQ in Cicero, NY celebrating Miracle Treat Day
2018!”

And that’s not the last of it! Jenna Martorana, Miss Red Rose City visited her local Dairy Queen in Exeter, PA! “I greeted customers and talked to them about the importance of Children’s Miracle Network and what it does for kids,” she shared with us. And of course she had to have some yummy food she while there!

Lori Zavitz, the mom of Madison Zavitz, Miss Swan City, from Florida, wrote to us to share about what Madison did to participate today! “There were several young children that came into the restaurant for lunch. The cutest one was a little boy maybe four or five years old. He walked up to Madison, gave her a big hug, and said I didn’t know princesses came to Dairy Queen! Practically everyone bought a blizzard while she was there promoting Children’s Miracle Network. She would go up to the customers and discuss with them about the special day and the impact that their purchase would make for CMNH. Later in the day, we discovered that her boomerang post on Instagram attracted the attention of Dairy Queen and Marie Osmond!”

Finally, we share with you a story about a road-trip from New York to New Jersey, just to help raise awareness for CMNH! “Making miracles where every dollar counts. Today was Miracle Day at Dairy Queen, where you can make a donation by purchasing a blizzard or making a personal donation in their donation bucket,” wrote Ashley Lawrence.

“After my day out with my family I found a Dairy Queen in Freehold New Jersey where I was able to make a donation and purchase blizzards for my sisters and I. As a strong advocate for The Children’s Miracle Network Hospital I also spoke to a volunteer for the hospital and told him who my sisters and I represented and how important this hospital is to The Miss America Organization and how happy we were to do our part today.”

Novalee Lewis, the reigning Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen also participated in Miracle Treat Day.

When we asked why she visited her local Dairy Queen, Lewis stated, “is important because it’s a fun and easy way to help raise funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Hospitals. I not only got to eat blizzards, but I also got to learn how to make them, all while encouraging people to purchase treats of their own and support this organization. I was able to meet a contact person from Seattle Children’s and listen to how important Miracle Treat Day is to them, as it provides financial support so they can continue to help children in our community.”

So as you can see, ice cream and crowns are a great mix together. And title-holder or not, people from all communities, came together today to help raise awareness for a wonderful cause – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Even if you were not able to visit a local Dairy Queen today, you can still do your part and make a donation towards CMNH! And the best part is, the donations will go to benefit a local CMN Hospital in your community! What will you do #forthekids?
