Miss America Serves 2018

Miss America Serves is the Miss America national day of service. Local title-holders and state title-holders set forth into their communities for either, "...cleaning parks, beaches or neighborhoods, assisting youth and senior organizations, visiting nursing homes and CMN Hospitals, collecting clothes, stocking food pantries, or feeding the homeless," is states on the Help Make Miracles website. Another fun fact they state is that, "...all of the funds raised for Miss America Serves stay within each state and are given to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that supports the children in the state, as well as the state's Miss America and Miss America's Outstanding Teen state scholarships." How amazing is that! And just this past weekend, both local and state title-holders from across the country took part in this national day of service. Continue reading to learn more about some of the amazing efforts which were made this past weekend!

In our home-state of New Jersey, local teen title-holder, Isabella Freund, took part in this national day of service. Freund stated, “my brother and I decided to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the ACRM, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.” She continued, “it’s so important to help around your community, because everyone has something to offer, no mater how big or small we can all make a difference!” For those who may not be aware, the ACRM is a place of help for homeless men, women, and families in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Check out these images of Isabella and her brother making the sandwiches!

Kathryn Teruya, who is the reigning Miss Hawaii 2017 also shared with Bravura Magazine about her day of service within their community. “April being Prevent Child Abuse Month, the Miss Hawaii Team held a book drive for Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii,” Teruya stated. She continued, “these donated books were distributed to various charitable agencies. In addition, our collected books will also be available to Keiki at the Kids Day Festival in October at the State Capital.”

Teruya also went onto state that, “we had a program that introduced and showcased the talents of our Miss Hawaii 2018 and Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen 2018 contestants. Vendor booths included Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii, Children and Youth Day, Argosy University, and our Miss Hawaii Local Organizations. It was a full filled day at Ka Makana Ali’i in Kapolei, Hawaii.”

How amazing is that?! Check out some more images which Teruya shared for our readers:

And before we end, we had another great story to share Miss Wyoming 2017, Cheyenne Buyert! She started off with, “For Miss America Serves 2018, Team Wyoming hosted a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals alongside McDonalds. Myself and local contestants were able to serve and engage with customers during the event, raising awareness for CMN, Miss America, and the Miss Wyoming Scholarship Program.”

Such an amazing thing to hear! Buyert continued with, “I am incredibly blessed and thankful to announce that…thanks to the hard work of volunteers and many generous donors…Team Wyoming was able to raise over $2,500 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for Miss America Serves Day. This more than doubled our goal of $1,000.” She continued with, “I would like to express a heartfelt thank you for all who participated and supported in our program as we fund-raised for sick children and empowering women through scholarship. I feel truly blessed to come from and represent such a generous, loving state, and will continue giving back as much as I possibly can.”
