This 16-year-old is very passionate about, not only her platform “Healthy Movement,” but dance as well! Continue reading to learn more about Hubel and her journey to the crown!

For those who may not be familiar with you, tell our readers a bit about yourself and your background within the pageant world.
Hello, my name is Aubrey Nicole Hubel.  I am 16 years old and a junior at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia.  Dance is my passion.  I have been dancing since I was 2 years old.  I am currently on a competitive dance team called Fusion.  I have participated in two pageants over the last few years. One of those pageants was in November 2017 where I was selected to represent my high school as Miss Hickory 2018.  This led me to the Miss Chesapeake’s Outstanding Teen pageant. I am so thankful and looking forward for the opportunity to represent the City of Chesapeake at the Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen pageant.

The four points of the Miss America crown represent: service, scholarship, style, and success. Which one is the most important to you and why?
All four points are so important to represent but if I had to choose one most important point it would be service.  Service teaches such valuable life lessons and provides so many wonderful opportunities to reach out to the people of Virginia and local communities.  I look forward to the opportunity to give back to my community and my state.

During Isabella’s reign, what is one characteristic you’ve seen her bring forth as Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, and which do you hope to emulate if you were to win the title?
One characteristic from Isabella’ reign I would like to emulate would be her determination.  She not only excels in academics, she was able to work hard and maintain her commitments to the Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen title.

What have you learned from our current Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, Isabella, that can help you be a better outstanding teen?
I have learned that it is important to be confident in yourself and not listen to others who are judgmental toward you.  It is important to celebrate your victory while remaining humble and kind.

Please share with our readers your platform and why you’ve chosen to advocate for it.
My platform is Healthy Movement.  The movement aspect of my platform is using dance as a fun way to exercise. Dance has been such an important part of my life.  Unfortunately, childhood obesity has been a topic of concern over the past many years.  I want to reach out to kids and show them there are so many different forms of exercise to stay healthy. You don’t just have to workout in a gym.  My focus is on dance as exercise.  It is a fun way to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

If you were to win the title of Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, how do you hope to better educate your generation about your platform and the importance it holds?
I would love to get out in communities and speak about how dance has encouraged my healthy lifestyle.  I also would like to create opportunities for children and adults in communities to have dance classes offered to them not only through a dance studio but also possibly through the school systems and community centers.

Tell us about your talent and the decisions you made in proceeding with this talent.
I will be performing a contemporary dance I choreographed myself.  The song I chose is “Stop and Stare” by One Republic.  This song inspires me to keep reaching toward and achieving my goals in life.

Having been in pageants and after winning a local title, what advice do you have for those who want to start competing in the MAO system?
My advice to anyone who wants to participate in the MAO pageant system is be yourself, be confident and most importantly have fun!!!  It is not just about winning the crown; it is all about the experience, making new friends and having a great time!

Because of the way media and certain television networks have portrayed the lifestyle of pageantry, there is a preconceived notion of what a pageant girl is like. How do you think that being a part of the Miss America Organization you are able to break that barrier?
I would break that barrier by using social media for the positive aspects of the pageant,  reaching out to girls all over telling them what it is truly like to be apart of pageantry.  I would break down the stereotypes with all the positive aspects and sharing my journey.

Regardless of who wins the title of Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, what is one goal which you have for them, which you hope they will accomplish during their reign?
I wish for the future Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen to use her platform to make positive changes in our society.

Bravura is an artistic word for exceptional. Tell our readers what make you “bravura.”
