The Road to Miss New Jersey’s Outstanding Teen – Miss Eastern Shore’s Outstanding Teen, Julianna Cauterucci
We are excited to share with our readers, a new series with you called, "The Road to Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen." The next young contestant to be featured in our series is, Miss Eastern Shore's Outstanding Teen, Julianna Cauterucci!
Tell us your name, title, and the platform you’re representing
Julianna Cauterucci, Miss Eastern Shore’s Outstanding Teen, Bullying:BFF (Be a Friend First).
Why did you choose this platform as you competed in the Outstanding Teen program?
I choose this platform because I was bullied when I was younger and I see it happen everywhere in my daily life. I was bullied for something I was passionate about which was dancing.
Is this your first pageant, or have you competed in pageants before?
I have competed in other pageant systems before but I entered my first Miss America’s Outstanding Teen local pageant this summer and won.
What have you learned thus far from our current Miss NJ, Brenna Weick, that can help you be a better Outstanding Teen?
I have learned that in Brenna’s platform there is safe way to search the web and we need to be careful. Also, I learned that as a title holder your an inspiration to younger girls and everyone is watching your daily moves.
If you were to win the title of Miss New Jersey’s Outstanding Teen, what is the biggest challenge you think you will face? How do you hope to overcome it?
I think the biggest challenge I would face is time management. I am very busy with school, dance team and the pageant. I would overcome this by having daily schedules of how I can fit multiple activities in one day. I would place each item in daily priority order.
If you were to win the title of Miss NJOTeen, how do you hope to better educate your generation about your platform and the importance it holds?
I would educate my generation about the importance of Bulling BFF (Be a Friend First), by not only speaking to elementary schools but also speaking at middle schools around NJ and Girl Scout Troops in NJ. I would explain to them how bullying affected me and how it made me not want to go to dance anymore. That was really a hard time for me and I would explain how I overcame it. Bullying can affect people physically and mentally. I have seen it happen to others and experienced it happen to me ever since I was 6 years old. Bullying can lead to depression and possibly suicide so it very important to start addressing this at young age. I want to discuss it to the younger generation so they learn how serious it is at a young age. I have talked to Girl Scouts troops and 3rd grade classes about bullying in my community.
What advice do you have for those who want to compete for a local title?
My advice is to stay calm, have fun and enjoy the journey of the Miss America system. Make sure that you are not just stressed on winning the crown, because people can really tell and it will make difference in the outcome of how you do.
Because of the way media and certain television networks have portrayed the lifestyle of a pageantry, there is a preconceived notion of what a pageant girl is. How do you think that being a part of the Miss America Organization, you’re able to break that barrier?
I am able to break that barrier because as being local title holder I show people how I am making difference in the community with my platform. I also break the barrier by explaining to my friends and new people I meet the huge difference between Toddlers and Tiara and the Miss America Organization.
Bravura is an artistic word for exceptional. Tell our readers what makes you “bravura.”
I am exceptional because when I want to give up I don’t. I work hard in everything that I do such as, dance, school, community service and preparing for Miss America’s New Jersey Outstanding Teen. I set goals for myself and I never forget them.
