My Proud Accomplishment: Coming from a military family, singing the National Anthem is very important to me. I have performed more than 300 times welcoming home troops, at the Boston Bruins, and on live national TV at a NASCAR race.
“Caroline, you have Type I diabetes.” With one sentence, my world was changed. Eight years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. Eight years has molded me into a young woman hard at work to stop diabetes. I have lobbied for funding on Capitol Hill; I am a national spokesperson for Medtronic; and I have become a role model for children who share in the struggles of my disease. My diagnosis is not a curse; it is an opportunity to create change. Although I only just graduated high school, everything I have accomplished has prepared me for the job of Miss America.
