Samina Mughal has been interested in fashion since her childhood. She describes her latest collection, Desert Funk, as “a conceptual wonder of senses describes this Innovative and sexy collection of clothing and jewelry that is edgy and eclectic.”

She states that she’s taken inspiration from, the Exotic Middle East, Edgy European Vibe and blending it together with innovative silhouettes with a touch of Red Carpet glamour. [There are] luxurious surface embellishments which are in perfect harmony.”

I recently had the chance to rub shoulders with this amazing designer during Atlantic City Fashion Week, where Bravura Magazine was an official media sponsor. After an electrifying showcase of vibrant colors, crisp cuts and exotic embellishments, we sat down in an intimate atmosphere of mimosas and talked about her latest collection, Fashion Week and more!

How did your collaboration with Atlantic City Fashion Week come about?
Jeana Bowling from Atlantic City Fashion Week invited me to participate in the show. She had previously seen my work and was very excited for me to show my collection in AC. I almost was not able to show as I was already committed to NY Fashion Week on the same day. I managed to change my NY showing to the following day so that I could participate in both shows.

When did you know that fashion was the industry you wanted to step in?
I grew up loving fabrics, sewing and dressing my dolls. As a teenager, I went to a fashion show with my older sister which inspired me to get into a career in fashion.

What was your first experience in fashion like? How have you grown as a designer since then?
I have come a long way since studying at Fashion School in Birmingham, England; designing Men’s, Women’s and Children’s wear for several companies in Europe and USA to teaching my skills to Fashion Design Students.

Where and how did you see yourself and your design point-of-view fitting into the Atlantic City Fashion Week aesthetic?
I was attracted by the upscale venue, the excitement of Atlantic City, and a new demographic. My collection is Funky, Eclectic and has an element of Luxe Red Carpet Glamour.

Tell us more about the inspiration behind the collection you showed during Atlantic City Fashion Week.
I took inspiration from the Exotic Middle East, Edgy European Vibe and blending it together with innovative silhouettes with a touch of Red Carpet Glamour. Incorporating surface embellishments. The SAMINA MUGHAL customer is International. She sees no boundaries between race, culture or geographical location. She is viewed as fashion forward, glamorous and one that knows no limit to luxury.

Are there different emotional aspects that you go through when you’re working on your collection?
Attention to detail, meeting deadlines, juggling family responsibility, having fun!!!

How do you find your inspiration, is the process different with each collection?
My inspirational starts with trend research, going to tradeshows, shopping the stores, magazines and people watching.

How would you describe the typical “fashionista” girl?
Someone who is not afraid to have her own personal style. Taking inspiration from trends but putting a look together which complements her individual personality.

Who is one Hollywood actress you’d love to style for? How about Bollywood?
Jennifer Lopez, Bipasha

“Bravura” means exceptional. What makes your collection exceptional?
My collection is exceptional because I am not afraid to think outside the box and experiment with different silhouettes and fabrics. My collection is sexy, yet sophisticated.

What words of advise do you have for those who want to make a career in fashion?
Go to school to get some formal fashion industry training and follow your dreams.

Do you have any last words for our readers and your supporters?
Don’t be afraid to express yourself with your clothes. Find your personal style and be proud to be different.
