A Businessman Becomes President

Into the early hours of November 9th, America elected the 45th President of the United States, who will officially serve, in office on January 20, 2017; Earlier in 2016, Forbes magazine listed Trump as the 324th wealthiest person in the world, and 156th in the United States. It was in 2015, Trump stated that he would be running for President, for the Republican party, and over-time, he led the polls for the Republicans. By Summer of 2016, most of the other candidates gave up and he was, thereafter, formally nominated for President.

During speeches and debates, Trump would touch on topics and respond in regards to issues & questions which were raised, always stating that he will “make America great again.” This was his biggest hook during the entire campaign. And garnered a lot of attention from his fans and those who voted for him.

The election was a tight one to watch; social media was flooded with hopes of Hillary gaining the swing states, and cheers when Trump came out on top. In light of the popular vote, Clinton did obtain 59,237,387, where as Trump obtained 59,086,074 votes. However, due to many of the swing states which were in question, Trump obtained the higher electoral votes: 276 in his favor, and 218 electoral for Clinton.

Historically, Trump did do better than the previous Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, having won the several states that Romney lost in 2012: Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Florida,  and Ohio.

During his acceptance speech Trump said, “…I say it is time for us to come together as one united people…working together we will begin the urgent task of building our nation and renewing the American dream.”

He went onto state, “We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges…we are going to rebuild our info structure.” A moment of sentiment came when he said, “At the same time we will get along with all other nations,” but then quickly added, “…willing to get along with us…we will have great relationships.”

Trump went onto also state that, “America will no longer settle for anything less than the best.”

However, we did see his comical side and a semi-smile when he jokingly said, “This political stuff is nasty, and it’s tough…” He continued, “…I promise you I will not let you down…”

And ended on these words, “I look very much forward to being your president and hopefully at the end of two years, or three years or four years, or maybe even eight years…you will say that was something that you were really proud to do….our work on this movement is now really just beginning.”

Update: Trump has kept quiet for the most part on social media during Election night, but he did come with this tweet early on November 9th.
