Mrs India Washington – The Gown Hunt!
I was the last contestant to be selected for this beauty pageant and I hardly had 3 weeks for the preparations. With everyone else almost ready with their costumes and I had to start my hunt, that put me under lot of pressure. The most difficult task of selecting the costumes. One Lehanga for Indian wear and one gown for western round. I am generally not so choosy but when it comes to clothes I am extremely fussy and selective.
The HUNT for the perfect gown began…
To start with I had plenty of options because this was the Prom season and all stores had variety of options. I did try a few prom gowns, but I didn’t like any. Well, to start with I didn’t want a gown with glitter. Most of them had sequences or fake stones. They were really colorful and beautiful but not my style.
I wanted to dress my age in something not flashy but classy. I loved wearing Black and white, I had almost found a pretty pearl white gown and another black fluffy gown. But I was later told by my choreographers that we are not allowed to wear white, they preferred colors. The background on stage was black, so no matter how much I liked a black gown, I couldn’t risk wearing one!
I had tried around 30 to 40 gowns and still had not found the one. I was so confused until the day I tried the gown that was made for me. It was plain and simple yet beautiful and elegant exactly what I wanted. Here are the pictures of few of gowns that I tried on…
