The Fine Line – The Rainbow
In honor of the most fabulous week in New York City, Gay Pride Week, men, women, children, and canines alike will don the epitome of sexual pride, whether one is gay, straight, or bi. The rainbow is the contemporary embodiment of sexuality and acceptance.
During the fabulous festivities it’s perfectly socially acceptable to wave your freak flag high and wear as much rainbow as possible, so much so that people might mistake you for being covered in Fruit Loops. The gayer the better during Pride is how it goes, and that is precisely when you should don the gay apparel, not everyday.
The problem with wearing anything with an inkling of a rainbow of colors is that other people might think you yourself are gay even when you might be the straightest stick in the faggot. You have only yourself to blame for the hell you may receive; you should know better than to dress like a rainbow when you know there are hard-core conservatives lurking about. However, if you do indeed have a backbone and are comfortable with who you are as a person, wearing this clash of colors can be fun.
Let’s try not to go overboard with the colors and wear a striped top with matching pants, leave that for the parade but rainbow is a great color combination for accessories: belts, (bow)ties, shoe laces, glasses, watches, bracelets, suspenders even, etc. Even I wouldn’t even bother wearing a rainbow tie-dye shirt these days if I didn’t want to be looked at funny. Oh, wait. I do… Tie-dye is definitely making its comeback and I wholeheartedly support the movement. Rainbow is so much fun! Is it just me or do you also get this jolt of just wanting to be utterly fabulous when you see a mish-mash of reds, yellows, oranges, greens, blues, and purples, in an shade or hue. Surely, I just might want to be finding that pot of gold but in all reality, rainbows are magical and make you feel as such.
They are different and unique with countless potential patterns and designs. Rainbow is ideal for that day you really just could care less about what you were wearing or maybe an off-day when all you want to do is lay in bed and watch the Wizard of Oz. Not to mention when you wear something rainbow, you might get lucky and have a stain blend right in. When it comes to the hair, please, please do spare some brain cells and hair follicles and NOT bleach then dye your hair like a gay zebra. It’s not healthy nor is it very smart to change your image so drastically that potential employers and significant others alike would judge you to hell and back without even an attempt to get to know the person under the rainbow hair. Style essentially comes from within. You know what you like, have the confidence to wear what you like, and not give a damn what anybody else thinks.
That’s what Pride is all about. Have some pride in yourself and you might end up pulling off a look that you didn’t think should ever come across your eyes. Be a unicorn and rock that rainbow like it’s nobody’s business but your own.
It’s all about you. Own it.
