Designer Spotlight – Marisol Henriquez

Fashion Week is amongst us, and one of the #FashionWeek events #BravuraMagazine is always looking forward to is Couture Fashion Week! For 5+ years we have been attending & covering the weekend long event for our avid readers, bringing them the best in international couture and high-fashion! Andres Aquino is the executive producer of this phenomenal event, and he always has something up his sleeves in regards to all the designers! Today we will be introducing you to Marisol Henriquez, who is one of the designers showcasing during this event!

Tell us a bit about your background in the fashion industry and how you got to the platform of being a designer.
Ever since I was a little girl I have been passionate about fashion; I studied handicrafts at school and since then, fashion, design and the arts have become an essential part of my life. After finishing higher studies, I began to study fashion design; while at the same time working as a model; years went by, and as they did, my passion and skill for design grew more.

What schooling or educational background did you have in regards to your career as a fashion designer?
My academic preparation took off when I started studying Fashion Design at Instituto Superior Mercey Jaquez (Sto. Dgo); Fashion Illustration at Bellas Artes (Sto Dgo); Visual Fashion Design for Fotografia y Television, in Mexico, as well as courses in Modeling, Makeup and Hairstyling.

What initially sparked your interest in the world of fashion?
My first step in Fashion was modeling, and I am very thankful for the love and support many people gave me. Every time I stepped on a fashion show to display my projects to others, I thought that one day I was going to have the opportunity to be creator of majestic pieces of work that would point out that inner talent and passion that characterizes us Dominicans.

What is the name of your new collection and the meaning behind it.
The collection is titled Sources of Elegance (Fuentes de Elegancia), and it possesses a very meaningful, almost magical significance for me…that essence which distinguishes every woman…the love for details that allows her to externalize her inner beauty.

What was the primary inspiration for this new collection?
I was inspired by the desire of delivering creations that would make women feel both confident and defying at the same time. This is a collection that seeks to shine a light at the women of this time of constant change, in which elegance and glamour are the protagonist of their image.

How does that inspiration then turn into reality?
In order to make my inspiration a reality, I decided to use texture, colors, cuts and styles that would show that elegance and glamour that distinguishes every woman, and that many have hidden inside. Every element has given life to a collection that knows no limits and leaves much to the imagination of the beholder.

Is this your first time showcasing your designs in the US, during Fashion Week?
This is not my first time in American fashion shows. Since 2010, I have been present in many events of New York Fashion Week and every experience has allowed me to consolidate my work, which has been remarked to show with ingenuity, a contemporary type of fashion with which women and men have fallen in love with, in every delivery.

As you were growing up, who did you consider your ‘role models’ or your ‘inspiration’ from the world of fashion?
Since a very young age, I have admired style, design and the amazing human being and that was the unforgettable Oscar de la Renta.

What advise do you have for those who want to pursue a career in fashion design?
The best advice I can give to future designers, is to follow the path your passion draws…that when choosing this career, you are aware that the principal, driving machinery for true creation, is the love for what we do, and the guide though this path will be the talent to do things well, and being sensitive and attentive when it comes to details, for it is details that make the difference between good and extraordinary.

Where can our readers learn more about your work? Social media links?
My followers can keep up with my work steps at my website: www.marysunint.com and social networks: Instagram and twitter, and as Marisol Henriquez on Facebook.

Do you have any final words for the readers of Bravura Magazine?
To those who are already following me, I invite you to live Fashion in all its expressions, enjoy it and feel it unbidden, without fear… let yourself be engulfed by its magic, always respecting the work of those of us who have the honor and pleasure of being an instrument of inspiration of God.
