Crack is Whack!

I was at my friend's place in Philadelphia when I heard of Whitney Houston's death. We were all sitting around getting ready to eat dinner, laughing and having a good time. I was so shocked by her death that I asked my friends if we could have a moment of silence for her. I obviously don't know her personally but I grew up listening to her and belting her songs out at the top of my lungs that I felt as if she was a part of me. My favorite song was"I Will Always Love You" and I could never, for the life of me, hit the notes right. Such a beautiful song but also a difficult one to sing. Truly talented singers like Whitney are hard to come by and they only come around once in a lifetime.

She was found dead submerged underwater in a bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hotel. My first thought was, how does an amazingly talented woman go out like that? I also realized two things. One, that relationships and the people who you associate with are extremely important when it comes to living a healthy and prosperous lifestyle. I previously wrote about the positive relationship that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have in my post titled, “Relationships Are Key”. And two, that CRACK IS WHACK or any drug and illegal substance for that matter, even marijuana. If someone needs any type of substance to make themselves feel better or to alter their mood and needs it all the time, there is something wrong with that picture. If there is a problem, substance abuse is not the solution and avoids the real issue. What needs to happen is addressing the actual issue instead of self-medication.

I hope we can all learn a lesson from the passing of Whitney Houston, an eternal star and a beautiful, stunning woman. She joins a myriad of celebrities that have passed due to drug addiction: Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, Chris Farley, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Russel Tyrone Jones (Ol’ Dirty Bastard) and sadly, this is just a short list.

In the coming weeks, I’ll include a post about the perils of drug addiction. Please post in the comments below to tell us your thoughts and thanks for reading!
